Digimarc brings digital watermarking to PLUS members.

A founding member of the PLUS Coalition, Digimarc pioneered the technology for embedding digital watermarks in images, ensuring the persistence of a unique digital ID that identifies rightsholders and endures throughout manipulation, transformation and duplication of the file. Unlike standard metadata, the Digimarc ID is imperceptible and not easily stripped away, so copyright and owner contact information become a permanent part of the image file. After the launch of the PLUS Registry, users will embed PLUS-IDs as invisible Digimarc watermarks, allowing recovery of PLUS rights metadata from the PLUS Registry, even when embedded metadata is lost or damaged.

A Digimarc plug-in for Photoshop both embeds and reads digital watermarks. A free reader is also available on Digimarc's website. Once an image carries a Digimarc watermark, content owners can use the Digimarc Search Service to identify instances where the image is used online, with or without their consent. The service provides monthly or on-demand reports on image usage. For more information on Digimarc solutions, visit: www.digimarc.com.
